Beauty Beneath The Surface Counts The Most For Miss Warner Robins
By Alline Kent Jenison Cooper may be the reigning Miss Warner Robins, but it is a guarantee that the first thing you will think if you meet her is not "beauty queen." Sure, she is a beautiful girl. Stunning is more like it. But the deepest beauty Jenison has comes from within. She is talented, dedicated and committed, not as much to the pageant system but to the community that she represents. "Beauty queen" just isn't a broad enough term to describe Jenison. She leaves this Friday for Columbus to represent Warner Robins in the Miss Georgia pageant. The week full of activities will culminate in the actual pageant next Saturday night. As Miss Historic Southern Plains, Jenison has already made one trip to the Miss Georgia pageant. That year, she sang. But while she has a gifted voice, her passion is dance, the talent with which she won the Miss Warner Robins title and that she will be displaying on stage at the Miss Georgia competition. It is a talent that requires a great deal of discipline. Jenison takes classes, either private or with a group, constantly, every weekend during the school year and daily since she has been home from the University of Georgia. In the Miss Georgia pageant, Jenison will be performing a traditional ballet on point. "I really wanted to dance to represent the city of Warner Robins, to use the better talent of the two," she said. Over and over, Jenison comes back to that. She is not only Miss Warner Robins, she represents Warner Robins in everything she does. "I was born and raised here," she explained. "To represent all the people of this city, the businesses, the young people, that is very prestigious. I am looking forward to making them proud." Along with the scholarship money she has won competing in pageants, the Miss America system has helped Jenison define her career goals. She started off as a early childhood education major, but after picking her pageant platform of "Reading: The Basis of All Education," Jenison has moved into marketing education, hoping eventually to train others to teach reading skills to children. "A child cannot be expected to pass academic subjects if he/she cannot read the material before them," she says. "Through my platform I am able to educate parents, mentors and students on the benefits of reading education and provide for them the resources necessary for a successful academic journey. I knew that choosing this platform would make a difference not only in a child's life, but mine "The Miss America program really gives you the opportunity to develop who you want to be, to grow and to develop as a young woman and then take that next step," Jenison said. Jenison and Miss Warner Robins Outstanding Teen Denise Bringslid modeled their Miss Georgia outfits in an "On to Miss Georgia" reception held at City Hall on Friday evening. Denise will be competing next week for the Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen. Denise, the current Miss Houston County High School, will be playing the clarinet for her talent. The Miss Warner Robins Scholarship Pageant is now taking applications for the 2007 Miss Warner Robins Pageant and also the Miss Warner Robins Outstanding Teen Pageant, which will be July 29 at the Homer J. Walker Civic Center. Deadline for entry is June 26. Applicants for the Miss Warner Robins pageant must be rising seniors by July 29, no older than 24 by Sept. 30, 2007, and be from Houston, Peach, Pulaski or Dooly County. Outstanding Teen contestants must be at least 13, no older than 17 and not have begun their senior year of high school. This pageant is open to any young woman in Georgia.
